Hello!
This place used to be called Current Thoughts: a biscuit tin full of random, beautiful things. I filled it with soft reflections and creative outbursts — the kind of stuff you’d read whilst rotting on your bed with a bag of Cheetos.
Or at least, I attempted to.
Alas, like most biscuit tins, this newsletter got pushed to the back of the shelf and forgotten the moment I missed a send.
Typical, right?
But! While the horrors persist, so do I — so let’s give this another go:
Welcome to Current Thoughts —
— a place where we navigate the ebb and flow of content, culture, and work.
It’s where I make sense of everything I’ve learned (and am still learning) as a content strategist, career-shifter, and creative.
Expect chunky, yet hopefully valuable, thoughts on:
Building content teams and programs that actually work
Turning a weird career path into an advantage
The life and times of a creative in Asia
If you work online, write for a living, or just like thinking about how we work and create, you’re in the right place.
No one asked you to do this
And yet, here we are. 😛
While my job in tHe FaSt-PaCeD wOrLd Of MaRkEtInG demands that I keep up with trends, at heart I’m an old-school content creator who’s kind of sick of the ephemeral nature of social media content.
Short-form videos and pithy Threads give me a nice dopamine kick, but I also recognize that the endless scroll of “snackable” content is shooting my attention to hell and turning my brain into mush.
(I believe the kids are aptly calling it brain rot.)
This wasn’t the case just a few years ago.
I remember dedicating at least 30 minutes of my day mindfully going through newsletters like Dense Discovery, checking out whatever cool app or artist or book recommendation they’d curated that week.
I sipped my tea while reading stories from The Hustle.
I shared blog posts with friends.
As a creator, I also carved out time to make sure whatever I produced was valuable, entertaining, and resonant.
Today, content has become so disposable.
Everyone wants to grab attention; few want to earn it.
And perhaps this is me finally transforming into the meme above, but I’ve been craving the thoughtfulness in consuming — and creating — long-form content.
I’m craving structure, slowness.
I want to create something that my readers can sit down with, digest, and — I don’t know — maybe even relate to or remember.
Which leads us here — to this newsletter.
Get in loser, we’re blogging like it’s 2007.
I’m done with snackable content. I’m about to serve you a five-course meal.
Welcome to Current Thoughts.
I’m glad you’re here.
